Covid may be gone, but people will continue to suffer from the pain, hatred, and anger that emerges from the individuals who suffered.
After a rough 2021, Sarah, one of the most popular girls in school, organized a party, where she invited all the French advanced section students of her 10th graders class. It’s a night we’ll never forget, but not for a reason anybody expected.
Sarah asked everyone to bring something to the party. Her best friend, Loretta, brought a champagne bottle, Jordan, for instance, brought German candy-bars and his good friend Bob brought money to get pizza for everyone.
After the 8 people invited got here, the party could finally start. After some time, Emma noticed two people had disappeared: Gabriel and Julien. She immediately told Sarah, who looked around with Loretta. After a few minutes, the music would stop and everyone would hear a very loud scream. As Sarah arrived, Loretta shut the door of Sarah’s younger sister’s room.
“Loretta, what’s going on?” she fearfully asked.
“He’s dead Sarah, just call the police,” she answered.
Sarah, who couldn’t believe it, impatiently said “Loretta, whatever game you’re playing this isn’t funny, now let me – “
And before she could finish, “Someone call the police now, this is a murder scene, everyone, go to the kitchen now!” Loretta angrily yelled.
Sarah, who couldn’t understand, could nevertheless not let her emotions take control, to lessen the murderer’s possibility for further damage, she decided to get everyone around the table. She stopped the party, hit the lights, and calmly said “Everyone, put your phones down on the table now. Any person who doesn’t cooperate will be a suspect.” As everyone put their phones down, the door creaked opened. Sarah, who had anticipated the possibility of the killer being an outsider, had taken a knife from the kitchen. She asked fearfully “Who are you? Identify yourself now!”
As the man entered, he said calmly, “What the hell happened here, is someone dead or something? Seriously, guys, I go out 10 minutes to get pizzas and everything blows, what happened here?”
“Julian, you prick, Gabriel is dead, why do you think we were all around the table like that?” said Sarah, who was truly relieved.
Julian, who was truly shocked, joined everyone at the table and put his phone down with the others.
Sarah, slightly relieved, called 911, and as she was waiting for them to pick up, everyone started chattering about what happened and who could have done it. It wasn’t too disturbing at first, but after only a few seconds, Sarah, who was too mad to say it lightly, yelled at everyone “Will you just shut up?! My house, my rules, when I tell you something, you do it, now shut up!”
“911 what’s your emergency?” said a heavenly voice answering the phone.
“Hello, I would like to report a crime, we were having an end-of-the-year party until one of my comrades was found dead,” muttered Sarah, collapsing in tears.
“It is very brave to call, now, keep calm and give me your exact location,” she calmly said
“301 Pennsylvania avenue NW, third floor,” Sarah answered.
“We will be right there, whatever you do, prevent anyone from touching the body,” concluded the woman on the phone.
“Will do,” answered Sarah before hanging up.
The police were on their way, as Sarah was thinking about what to do, she decided to write a report on the situation, that she could give to the police when they arrive, she went to her room, took a pen and paper, then came back to the table and started writing her report.
Report for June 20th murder
Entry 1: Jordan was found dead at 10:23p.m,

As Sarah finished writing her first entry, she asked Bob to come with her in the kitchen, to ask him questions. Just after Bob closed the door, he immediately explained that he saw Jordan killing Gabriel and he even knew where the murder weapon was, which could make Jordan the prime suspect, he then whispered to Sarah: “the crime weapon is Loretta’s champagne bottle, it is an ‘Aran de Brignac’, I know because it is the only one with an imprint of a snake on it.”
Sarah was sure she got the killer now; she ran to her sister’s room where Gabriel was dead and found the bottle piece covered with blood and the snake imprint. But a thought crossed her head, “What if Bob was the killer, and he just tried to frame someone else for it?” But Bob was so little and so nice, it would be impossible for him to kill Gabriel.
Before interrogating Jordan, she asked to see Julien quickly first, there, she said “Julien, you know what I am going to ask you? Don’t you?”
“I believe I do, here you go. -- giving Sarah the check from the pizza place—Can I go now?”
“No, sorry, to be honest, I believe you are not guilty, you are the only one I can now trust, I am going to have to ask you to stay in case the next one becomes violent,” Said Sarah, who was petrified by the thought of interrogating Jordan.
As Jordan entered, Sarah felt she was going to die, nevertheless, she said, “Jordan, you are our prime suspect for now, would you like to say something in your defense?”
Jordan, very calmly answered, “I must say, I am quite surprised, I don’t know what your sources are, but, as you know, I am a junior firefighter, and I intend to become a war doctor, why would I kill someone if I am to save lives for the rest of my life?”
Sarah was very confused, she mumbled “But then, why were you seen near the body?”
“As you might know, Gabriel was going to leave the school, and as one of his best friends, I wanted to prevent him from going, I was looking for him, but when I found him, he was already dying, I pulled the bottle out, and tried to get the shards out of his lungs, by the time he was dead, I had touched the crime weapon, I was covered in blood, if I had come to see you, you wouldn’t have listened to me?” Jordan explained very calmly.
“Well, I believe you are not lying, that is for sure, you are his best friend, and I know your junior firefighter title is real, but who could have done that?” mumbled Sarah, who was relieved Jordan wasn’t the killer.
“This never happened, but you might want to check out Beth. She was trying to leave the school too, but she was beaten by Gabriel to get there” explained Gabriel.
“Gabriel won fair and square, why would she lose it like that?” asked Sarah
“She blames him for failing the second semester, as you might know, just after Joe Biden was inaugurated, Gabriel was diagnosed with a positive test to the Covid-19, just a month later, her two grandparents died, and she couldn’t even get to school, he never even apologized. I think that when she found out about him beating her to leave the school, she just couldn’t take it anymore. And got back at him,” explained Jordan.
“Thank you very much Jordan, please go back to the table with the others, let me think for now,” thankfully said Sarah.

Entry 2: check-up
Of the 7 initial suspects, only 2 remain
Jordan proved his innocence Bob proved his innocence
Loretta and I were near each other all night, and Bob saw me before the murder
Julian proved his innocence
Emma has not yet been interrogated
Neither has Beth, but Jordan strongly believes Beth is the killer
The only two remaining suspects were best friends, they might denounce themselves if it is to prevent the other one from going to prison. With that in mind, Sarah chose to interrogate Beth, framing her for the murder, but against all odds, she did not blink, she was as still as ice, she just nodded once or twice but was ready to let Emma fall for her crime.
Of course, Sarah, who had anticipated that end, recorded the conversation with her phone, as she was the only one not to have put it in after she called 911, When Emma heard the conversation, she collapsed into tears of fear, and angriness, she denounced Beth, who then confessed her motives.
By the time the police had arrived, the mystery was elucidated, when they finally arrived, one of the cops told Sarah to consider a job as a detective. But Sarah already had plans for her future.
In the end, Beth was arrested, and the international school of Washington DC lost two students, even after the end of the pandemic, it still hurts more than one.
